Hastings Color Run Fundraiser
FAQs
The Hastings Color Run is a fundraiser, hosted by the Hastings on Hudson PTSA, for the Farragut Middle School and Hastings High School students. During this 5K fun run, runners are doused from head to toe in a different colored powder every 1K. Participants wear white at the starting line and finish the race covered in color!
As you run/walk/dance through the course, you will get showered in safe, eco-friendly, plant-based powdered dye at every zone…turning you into a moving target of fun!
The Hastings Color Run is raising funds for the students of both Farragut Middle School and Hastings High School. Unlike most other fundraisers, the students will get to decide how they want to spend all the earnings.
We recommend the brightest white to show off ALL the colors… but don’t let that discourage you from going crazy with the brightest accessories you can find. Be adventurous! Create themes with your friends with crazy socks, sunglasses or tutus!
The race starts at Hillside at 9AM and weaves through local streets in Hastings (get excited for some hill runs!). Line-up starts at Hillside at 8:30AM. The race is a closed loop and ends up back at Hillside.
Color runs were inspired by the Hindu festival of Holi, also known as the Festival of Colors, which is now celebrated throughout the world to welcome the spring season with elements of joy and harmony. Families can learn more about the origins of Holi here.

Oh my goodness, NO. There are plenty of other great 5Ks out there to test speed and performance. The Hastings Color Run event is all about a color crazy day with friends and family. You can run, walk, crawl, or cartwheel if you wish!
Very simply register online here! T-shirt pickup will be on Friday, May 3 at the FMS Playground from 3PM-6PM.
We will need lots of volunteers along the race route at the 5 Color Stations and 2 Water Stations. It is a great way to participate without having to run up-hill! Volunteer Here
Anyone and everyone who can run, jog, walk or stroll 5K are welcome (including littles – see health and safety info below).
For the safety of all, we do not recommend bringing four legged friends.
You will see smiling faces along the course at our Color Stations whose main goal is to douse you in colorful powder to ensure that you look like you ran through a beautiful rainbow by the time you cross the finish line.
We are using powder from The Color Powder Supply Co. They strive to have the safest color powder available in the USA. Their formula uses simple and 100% natural ingredients including corn starch and natural dyes. It is free of harsh chemicals, heavy metals, and all other toxic ingredients. Although it’s made of all edible ingredients, it is not intended for consumption. Learn more about color powder safety here and here.
While all of the ingredients are natural and edible, the product is not intended for consumption. If you do ingest a small amount, do not be concerned, simply drink plenty of water.
Safety is our number one priority, so The Color Supply Co does not use any harmful ingredients in their color powder. If you get a small amount in your eyes, simply flush with water. We suggest that participants wear sunglasses to keep eyes safe.
The color powder is very fine and dust will be in the air when using large amounts at events. Inhaling a small amount of color powder dust will result in colorful boogers, but isn’t harmful. Dust masks, bandanas, or gator masks can be used to help protect against dust inhalation. Those with respiratory issues should take precautions as they would around any other dust.
The color does mostly wash out after the event (see steps below if you don’t want it to!). As with anything dirty, the sooner you wash it the better. We suggest wearing items that you wouldn’t mind getting colorful.
Most people bring some towels for the insides of their cars, or a change of clothes just in case.
Cleaning off your skin and hair is similar to dusting off dry dirt. Most of it can be removed by shaking and dusting yourself off. The remaining will go away with a bath or shower.
Please note that fair skin and hair may be left with a slight tint for a day or two if heavily covered and left on for a long period of time. Additionally, please take extra care with chemically treated hair that may be prone to absorbing color by wearing a bandana or ball cap and dusting off while dry prior to washing with water.
Most clothing can be washed as normal without staining. If staining occurs on white clothing, it can be cleaned with laundry whitener. WD40 works to remove stained plastic or vinyl. Porous surfaces such as leather, vinyl, suede, or foam products can be the most difficult to clean. Please do not wear valuable clothes or shoes to The Hastings Color Run. Use plastic, towels, or drop cloths to cover interior car seats, golf cart seats, or anything else that you would normally protect from dirt or mud.
Those colorful powder particles are sneaky and we cannot be liable for any damage that might be done to your phone!
The Hastings Color Run is not a timed event.Â
If an event is held as advertised, we cannot issue refunds. The logistics of setting up and planning the event make it impossible. Just make sure you are good to go before signing up.
It’s totally up to what you and your doctor decide. The powder is all certified non-toxic. We recommend wearing sunglasses or goggles, and a bandana over your mouth and nose in the color zones just for extra protection.
A little rain won’t stop The Happiest 5k! It even makes the color brighter!
You’ve completed your color run, had the best day ever and now you want a keepsake to remember how much fun you had? Why not keep your color blasted t-shirt as a souvenir?Â
Step 1: No shaking!
We know how exciting it is finishing a colour fun run, but in order to keep as much of that bright color powder on your top as possible, it’s best to keep the crazy dance moves for later! Avoid brushing and dusting off your t-shirt too, you want to keep the color on your shirt, not your hands!
Step 2: Spray your shirt down with white vinegar
Make sure your tee is on a flat surface for this step. Even though dripping colors may be a cool look, the likelihood is they’ll muddle together to create a not so cool brown mess! Spray down every inch of your t-shirt in white vinegar until it’s properly soaked.
Step 3: Give your t-shirt an iron
Allow the white vinegar to partly dry before this step, and place an old sheet between your color t-shirt and the iron to prevent any fabric burns. The heat and pressure from the iron helps to really sink that wonderful color powder into the fibres of your tee.
Step 4: Pop your top in the dryer
Finish your masterpiece by throwing your vinegar soaked, crisply ironed tee into a hot dryer for 10 minutes. If you don’t have access to a tumble dryer, blast your shirt with a hairdryer until it’s dry. This allows the t-shirt to further absorb those colors, and keep them locked in!
You now have your very own unique keepsake to remember just how fun your color run was! Remember to wash at 80 degrees to prevent significant color loss, although with every wash, your lovely colors will unfortunately start to dim.Â
